Sycamore boosts carriers' Ethernet options
By Jim Duffy
The Edge, 12/15/00

Sycamore Networks Thursday rolled out two Ethernet modules designed to enable service providers to extend the range of Ethernet services they can provision over their optical networks.

The two new service modules expand Sycamore's Ethernet options into the ultralong-haul and access switching markets.

The new modules include an 8-port Gigabit Ethernet service module for the SN 10000 long-haul/ultralong-haul transport platform, and a 2-port Gigabit Ethernet module for the SN 3000 optical access switch. The products will enable service providers to address the application service provider market as well as broaden offerings in their established networks, Sycamore claims.

The new modules augment the currently shipping 2-port Gigabit Ethernet module for the company's SN 8000 Optical Network Node.

The 8-port Gigabit Ethernet module for the SN 10000 costs $65,000 and will be available in the first quarter of 2001. The 2-port module for the SN 3000 is available now at a price of $14,000.
