Actually, China has a GSM network, just like in Europe. China's is the largest GSM network in the world.

you are absolutely correct. my prediction was based upon their recent decision to begin a buildout (on a limited scale) of a CDMA network.

if that doesn't work for you. then we can just throw out the china example (it's not important to my point) and use any of thousands of other examples of new technology deployment. i just used china's CDMA installation decision as an example because everyone here is familiar with it.

Hi MM,

Totally MVHO..... China will also deploy CDMA nationwide. China will enjoy the benefits of cheaper, better & faster with their CDMA system compared to the GSM map. A CDMA system will prove to be less costly to deploy in 2G & 2.5G. The upgrade to 3G will be far less costly than the GSM map.

A CDMA system will provide better quality voice & data from 2G all the way thru to 3G. A CDMA system will provide more data at higher rates from 2G thru to 3G. A CDMA system will provide significant capacity advantages that will be necessary in China's densely populated cities. GSM has significant capacity problems by comparison & there is only so much spectrum.

CDMA 2.5G & 3G systems are up & running successfully &/or have been successfully field tested. GSM, EDGE & WCDMA have been fraught with problems. GSM, EDGE, & WCDMA systems have steadily ratcheted down previous claims on performance, data capacity, as well as pushing time frames for commercial deployment further out..... not to mention the brain cookers for handsets from 2.5G EDGE..... and the overheating batteries & lack of talk/standby time issues. CDMA1x or 2.5G is in commercial deployment in Korea. Japan soon to follow. USA in 2001.

CDMA is clearly in the lead toward real, quality 3G that is cheaper, better & faster.

CDMA infrastructure & handset manufacturing will likely become a significant portion of China's growing economy. China could become a large exporter of CDMA products. The GSM cabal has worked hard to keep China from becoming a major player in GSM infra or handset manufacturing. GSM IPR almost prices out any competition. CDMA IPR does not because QCOM does not favor any vendor nor compete with them. The lower IPR rates for CDMA, combined with the ability to manufacture CDMA products on a competitive, level playing field are going to add to the already powerful benefits of a CDMA system in China.

IMVHO, it's a no brainer which system will eventually dominate in China.
