I ought not to rely on memory; it was Buffet who advised shorting the entire market if you were going to short at all (according to Train). But this occurred in a context of discussing Graham. Now let me try memory again; I think it's on page 33.

I did some research yesterday that leads me to believe that much of the natural gas crossing the border into southern California comes out of the San Juan Basin in northwestrern New Mexico. I got a temporary free subscription to a wonderful service (will post URL later) and found two stories indicating this.

Now I don't know how much cheating, scalping, etc. may go on between the California border, where the gas is $56 and the wellheads where it had been around $2.40. But I figure some of that money has to make its way to the producers. I have therefore just bought 2000 shares of SJT, the San Juan Basin Royalty Trust, as a speculation on this situation. The trust is already paying a better than 10% yield and the higher gas prices haven't even kicked in, if they are "only" $5.00-$10.00.

I think that as of this moment the Nymex may be locked limit up on gas futures trading. This is 9:35 a.m.
