Thank you, Tom, for maintaining, until now, one of the most civil and enjoyable threads on SI. CMB may hide behind the technicalities of his bigotry if he wishes, but he has exposed himself for what he is. Maybe not a racist, maybe not even stupid, but certainly ignorant.

Regards,
Fund

Tom--I have enjoyed the political commentary on this thread when it was just that, but this is a market trading thread not a forum for political infighting. There are a good dozen of those on SI now.
I think Bush is likely to get it with the Supreme Court support. Florida law does allow outsiders to recount the ballots and the Miami Herald has already said they will do so. What is going to result if Gore is the winner in their recount? Bush is going to be seen as the candidate who didn't win the popular vote and cheated the electoral.
That is leaving aside the truly ugly stuff like the Florida legislature giving it to Bush and then Gore being seen as having won.
Gore has severely damaged his image and is seen as grasping at legal ploys to get what he truly lost. That will change I think if the public starts to see it as he was right he did win. However as presidential material he has suffered damage he cannot repair whether he gets it or not. He is likely dead as a future candidate regardless.
I wanted a quality leader, that is what I wanted from the start. I have grown cynical about our election system. It seems to weed out the quality leaders and instead give us the best politicians, the ones best at running for office not at performing in it. Neither of these two candidates impressed me. This election fiasco has lowered my opinion.
All the Best
