I think you and I agree on this issue. Count the votes so long as it's clear what they are. Like you, I am uncomfortable with esoteric attempts to discern a voter's intent from ambiguous evidence. However, machines are not 100% accurate (neither are hand counts). A careful look at ballots that machines have failed to count and correcting the result when it's obvious the machine failed seems reasonable to me as it is to you I gather.

By responding to your post, I was not implying that you had got it wrong. I was merely latching onto a convenient way to voice my opinion on a subject that, understandably, has occupied a lot of us on the thread lately.
