<< The article was quoting a Shanghai analyst (named Add Snightder)>>

Or were they paraphrasing a US analyst named ED SNYDER?.....

brian,

I better give the article a shot. The way mightylakers has been posting, he is heading for the banned box soon. <ggg>

The interest parts of the article, in my opinion, is the distinction between MOTHER ChinaUnicom and CHU. It sounded like while CHU is the publicly traded portion, China may have different plans for China Unicom.

China Unicom, from Great Wall, now has 400K-500K CDMA customers, in the same 4 cities. While CHU has 12 million or so GSM customers, China Unicom still has 2-3 million subs. So the article opines that it may make more sense for the mother company to develop CDMA for long term advantages.

Most significant in this article is the rumor that C Unicom will be announcing the major push of CDMA in 12 provinces. It is unclear whether these 12 provinces will overlap with CHU's existing GSM cities or would they be different.

In either case, it sure sounds like the communists will be handing out Christmas presents this year.
