Yes, it's cynical but it is based on several years inside one part of that machine (the foreign policy world) part of which was writing the words that the "principals" spoke at the podium and the reporters wrote down and repeated in their stories that then became part of the public debate... There are some good people in politics side by side with craven self-serving con artists and too many burned out bureaucrats, worn down by what is a deeply cynical system. That's why I got out - take it FWIW.
