Taiwan's UMC To Build US$2.5B Singapore Plant - Report
SINGAPORE (Dow Jones)--Taiwan's blue-chip United Microelectronics Corp. (2303.TW), or UMC, will build a US$2.5 billion to US$3 billion wafer fabrication plant in Singapore, reports the Straits Times, quoting unnamed sources.
The world's second largest foundry, which is holding a press conference Friday to announce a "strategic Singapore investment plan", is expected to announce its building of a 12-inch wafer plant here.

The press conference will be co-chaired by United Microelectronics Group Chairman Robert Tsao, company Chairman John Hsuan and Economic Development Board Chairman Philip Yeo.
