I contend that their ability to stay the course may be slightly more uncommon than their shrewdness.

Actually, I was leaning in that direction as well even as I wrote the post. Good strategies may be the foundation, but holding through the ups and downs, heart-stopping slides and exhilarating ascents, FUD and daily news scares, requires uncommon stamina.

Taking it a step further, you could probably go so far as to say that simply holding may be more important than the actual investment plan (again, assuming a reasonably cohesive plan).

All of the great investors have made horrible mistakes as well as mistakes of lesser magnitude.

Notice that there's no "sell" component in the acronym, LTB&H. That's not an oversight.

No, but in a sense that poses a problem if you take it literally. When is enough enough? To paraphrase Buffet, since I can’t find the exact quote, You only need to be rich once. That line is hard to draw.
