Even in California it's perceived as an electricity crisis rather than a problem with natural gas. Wait until the bills start coming in over the next two months.

And of course that's true all over the country. A family in the East, maxed out on credit cards living in a not-too-well-insulated 10,000 square foot house burning natural gas, will be looking at a bill for $1,800 where last year it was $600 (warmer weather) for one month's heating. And the gas company wants cash.

<<We were approaching more "normal" stock levels a few weeks ago but I predict that by the end of the year the media will be trumpeting a NG crisis as if they just discovered it. Spin should be interesting if Bush wins. I have so far reserved judgement about the media bias. That may change depending on how they handle this. If they try in any way to blame it on Bush I will become an active ultra conservative.>>

The people of this country have very little patience and a short memory. Further, they hate it when somebody blames the previous guy for current problems. It's unlikely that, with Bush's late transition and confirmation process, a 2001 Clinton budget and all Slick's "midnight" activities, PLUS a polarized Congress, we will see any of the Bush plan before 2003, if then. If ever. We may never see any results from any good ideas at all. It's a royal mess.

Yes, I believe any and all energy problems which exist beyond summer of 2001 will be laid at the feet of GW Bush. For a historical perspective, Carter was incredibly inept, but he inherited the economic mess of LBJ and the Vietnam years and so he was blamed for the economic malaise and 19% interest rates. Reagan was lucky in partially inheriting a country on the economic and psychological up-bounce, but Slick Willie was luckiest of all, to inherit a post recessionary economy with a booming stock market, and a Congress which kept him out of mischief.

Bush, one term only, unless he's incredibly lucky, or unless Gore runs against him in 2004.

OT/Media will continue attack on the oil biz & take it from there...

During the campaign a fav spin given more air time than if the media were unbiased was to present Bush as a tool of the big oil companies. So, if Bush becomes President, although you can expect them (as is usual media practice) to lay the ground work, after a few months they will attempt to blame Bush at the very least by lumping him with the already demonized oil industry.

In any case, it's certainly not too late to experience an epiphany with regard to media bias(g).

Particularly with regard to the NY based TV networks, IMO they have always been the key to liberal influence over pubic opinion.

I'd not suggesting anyone become an ultra conservative. I'm a moderate conservate and disagree strongly with the hard right on MANY issues. In addition, the concept of press bias is NOT an ultra conservative idea. It's simple common sense that has been buttressed by many academic studies that whoever controls the airwaves dominates the political debate. One of my fav undergraduate courses, formation of Public Opinion in the 20th century, was taught by a moonlighting prof from Princeton and covered these issues in some detail.

In no case has a single party become dominant in a country (whether that party was on the right OR on the left) without control of the press and media.

When you make your decision, the welcome matt will be out for you to join us moderate conservatives.
