JQP,

My off-peak $.026/kwh compares favorably to my propane contract. I've added electric baseboard in a few cold areas of the house with a timer to assure off-peak operation.

This gas thing is so much fun. A few years ago as an energy engineer I actually had to oversee the removal of recuperators from 1750 deg. F. ovens because the savings was 'not worth the effort' of the production and maintenance folks. Fact was gas was too cheap for too long, many conservation projects didn't meet the corporate ROPA requirements on a hard dollar basis and when the budget doesn't cover all the hard dollar good ROPA projects, no funds make it to the 'what if gas goes to $6' type of project. And don't even waste your breath on the next generation type of thinking.

Also served on the states main conservation organization. These organizations are politically motivated and concerned with the social benefit rather than the risk / reward of the technicals. They represent the best of feel-good politics.

We are getting exactly what we deserve and I hope many heads roll over the mess thats been made.

Geez, hope I don't need to find daycare again ....
