Windsock, I read elsewhere a rumor that O'Connor had a stake, she wanted to retire but wouldn't unless W won. In terms of what the Court ends up looking like, this is a little bit more troublesome. It'd be hard to replace Rehnquist with anybody more, er, loyal, but O'Connor is sort of moderate, in some things anyway. Another nominee in the Rehnquist/Scalia/Thomas camp would be more of a shift than replacing Rehnquist with a like minded hack.
