jj,

It is a vicious cycle. The existing "non-standard" is unfair, and cannot stand. Any new standard is a change of the law, cannot stand, and there is no time left.

Because the SC is cognizant of this, decision will be for Bush 7-2 or better.

Except Ginsburg, I think every other justice is a potential pro-Bush vote. I think Souter is a reasonable probability, with a slight possibility of Stevens and Bryer, in addition to almost solid 5 pro-Bush votes.

I haven't heard anyone talk about the following problem with only recounting the undervote: If dimples can count in undervote, then they should also count in regular vote, thereby rejecting any ballots that have both a dimple and a regularly punched out chad for two different presidential candidates (i.e. switching those ballots to the 'overvote' category). This is why all votes should be tallied rather than just the undervote.

I pointed this several times on other threads. The dimples are a lost cause. I think the probability that they will eventually be taken into account is small, and Gore has no chance to win without dimples.

Joe

RE: ...decision will be for Bush 7-2 or better.

"Seven Justices of the Court agree that there are constitutional problems with the recount ordered by the Florida Supreme Court that demand a remedy."

FSC: slap, slap, slap.

Now, yes, there is less support for a complete stoppage of the recount (i.e. 5 to 4), so my prediction isn't perfect. Close enough though.

Now if I could just figure out AMD's stock price... Is it going to go to the moon within my lifetime? I wish it would in the morning, but I fear that the reverse news correlation (bad news = upward price movement & vice versa) of late means that we will immediately lose 3 to 4 points on opening bell...

JJ

P.S. If you think this is off topic, then I sincerely apologize. However, I do personally believe the stock market (whether in general or not I'm not saying) has definitely been affected by this whole election mess.
