Windsock,
RE:"The standard of intent is often used in the legal system. The criminal law relies on intent all the time. Judges and juries make decisions every day on intent. But only AFTER hearing the facts."

I thought the voting process was supposed to be "above" all this judicial stuff. What happened? <G>

Jim

Windsock, RE: No amount of making fun with dimples or asking questions on issues not specifically mentioned in the standard avoids the fact that the intent standard is the actual choice of the Florida legislature. You may desire more precision than the Rule contains but you can discard the Rule only with contempt for the principle that you set use the Rules existing before the election.

The Bushies want to discard this Rule and declare a victory. They are scared sh*itless that a count of the legal votes will show their guy lost the popular vote and that any "win" is just legal charade. You want to brand any opposition to the Rule adopted by the Florida legislature before the election as "cheating".

Well no, not from my point of view.

The Bush supporters just disagree as to how to interpret a clear indication of intent. And on that matter, unlike a lot of others, I think that they've got a very good point.

Dear Windsock:

That is just it. If you go by the rules before the election, dimples do not count. One corner punches do not count. Ballots must be recounted within 7 days and only if machine error, fraud, or gross negligence occurred, NOT VOTER ERROR! All of these rulings can only apply to future elections, not this one. Gore agreed to the rules when he registered in Florida. Democrats caused this problem by not updating the machines to a better system. They were hoist by their own petard. Volusia County met the seven day standard and got included. So Gore lost by 930 votes, too bad. Better luck next time.

If they want to change the system, they must do it now, for the next election not, the past one. Those are the rules.

Pete
