Cory:

No doubt, I was looking for a 5th successive record revenue and earnings quarter from AMD...No question I underestimated the triple whammy effect of fed's tough line on interest rates, energy price stickiness above $30 and perhaps most importantly the evaporation of "discretionary" spending that accompanies the paper (and real) net worth losses that are a necessary fallout of a Nasdaq drop from 5500 to 3000...How all this pans out in Q1 with respect to PC demand is anybody's guess...but while all this general market turbulence is taking place, AMD, relative to its competitors, continues to outpace all on the product introduction and development front, imho...At any sign of "PC market stability", I look for AMD to outperform the market indices...

re:Rapid erosion of ASP's at AMD and serious price protection just to maintain unit marketshare in this quarter.

no need to remind you M.E. 101 that is that the goal during slow-down is to maintain/gain market share. Profits are secondary at that time.

re:I thought you insisted that was INTC specific and didn't exist.

many of us pointed to the fact that intel felt slow down and amd did not. Many also pointed out market share gains at high end. That leads to the same basic strategy of maintaining and gaining market share during slow periods.
