"How about if they ship 40 million in Y2001?"

Problem is they are dropping prices like crazy and NOT gaining marketshare. See the problem here?

Niceguy,

re:"How about if they ship 40 million in Y2001? "

Oh clueless one.

They are NOT gonna ship 40M CPU's next year.

You can take that to the bank.

And Q1 2001 volumes will likely be well below Q3/Q4 levels of 7M units/qtr.

regards,

Kash

Niceguy - RE: "How about if they ship 40 million in Y2001?"

Maybe.

How about you look at ASPs also. This Q's ASP are NOT going to be higher than Q3's. And with Athlons selling for LESS than they have EVER sold for previously chances are Q1 ASPs are not going to be a great sight either.

AMD's highest clocked processor is selling for $230 on Pricewatch. I don't count the 1.2GHz Athlon because it is basically a paper processor for now. ASPs aren't going to get better until AMD stops giving away the Athlon and Duron. The Duron is actually selling for LESS than the K6-2 sold for when it was AMD's sole processor.

AMD said flash will be slightly higher than expected this Q but said overall revenues will still be basically flat with Q3 and EPS will be $0.08-$0.18 lower than expected.. They also said processors unit sales will be barely higher than in Q3. This means ASPs ARE deteriorating.

Good thing (if one sees it that way) is that the stock is so low that all this is basically priced in already.
