Headline: Jackson Says Bush Brother Disenfranchised Black Voters

Gee! Even some of the ones who actually existed???

The general issue of the level of government control is quite irrelevant to any of these matters. We establish governments specifically to provide for the common defense, keep the streets clear of criminals, and settle civil disputes. When a party seizes and holds power through the manufacture of votes, a democracy completely loses its legitimacy. The only solutions are to replace the democracy with some far less desirable structure, or create a democratic structure with enough integrity that it can be relied upon to reflect the will of RESPONSIBLE, INFORMED CITIZENS.

The post WWII trend has been to weaken the democratic process to the point where it has almost no meaning whatsoever. This has been done mostly for the best of intentions, under the banner of civil rights. Despite those good intentions, and despite the fact that the process was begun to eliminate true manipulation of power, IT IS A FAILURE. The result is the election we see. Had the 2000 vote been clean, I have no doubt that Geo. Bush would have won with a solid majority, as well as a lot of congressional Republicans.

What this election has done is display to the public that there is something massively defective in our democratic structure. Within the next few months, I believe the mass of the public will see more of the problem, and will be receptive to repairing that structure BEFORE WE LOSE IT.

THAT is the legacy of the 2000 election, and it has nothing to do with dusty punchcards in dusty Florida court storage rooms...

Is Salon still in a bankrupt status? Are you employed by this disenfranchised rag?

Are you going to join your mates in flowing onto the streets and doing hate crimes on me because I believe in the word "Personal Responsibility"?
