Thomas is not an "honorable intellectual"

That's all I stated. Nothing more. I did not call Thomas dishonorable. Nor would I do so. I don't really know much about the man other than what Anita Hill told the nation about him during the Senate hearings almost 10 years ago. In my opinion, he's one of the weakest appointments to the United States Supreme Court in my lifetime.

I must admit, though, that I simply don't follow the Court the way I used to follow it when I was an attorney for the United States Department of Justice, Antitrust Division. The esoteric ins-and-outs of the Court no longer maintain my attention. I used to follow it very closely.

Maybe I should refrain from commenting about areas I no longer closely follow. One thing I will say, though: I have incredible belief in the Court's group dynamics and wisdom. The Justices "on the fence" today--O'Connor and Kennedy--are intellectual stalwarts. They know the magnitude of their task and that they will be writing their names into the history books. It is incredible theatre and pressure on two fine human beings. Sorting out the Florida chaos is a job reserved for detached wisdom. Fortunately, we have it on the United States Supreme Court.
