I am sure that a lot of casual readers of this board think we are embroiled in an argument over how many Angels can dance on the head of a pin!

Not to worry, Lindy. Casual readers of this particular board probably don't hang around very long. :)

I really dont think that the classification of Intel is nitpicking....though the involvment of Mike Buckley may negate my argument ;-). There are two issues that I can think of that this argument could help us focus on....

1) If Intel is a King, then there is a HUGE divergence in the relative strengths of the various Kings. Perhaps we should look closer at Kings and attempt to classify the strength of its postions. Two companies that come to mind are TXN and JDSU....

2) An issue that will become pressing in about a month....what should Gorilla investors do with their SpinCo shares? SpinCo will have some similairities to Intel in the CDMA market. They will have a huge marketshare in the IS-95 chipmarket, with some control over the direction of future enhancements. In the W-CDMA market they will probably bring an overwhelming amount of expertise, but they will have little control over the standard. Has any consensus been reached about SpinCo's status?
