The fact that school vouchers failed by such a wide margin ... 70-30 in both California and Michigan on Nov. 7 ... may signal the demise of the concept, or at least an expansion of the idea. GWB also was wishy-washy on vouchers during the debates. He indicated it was an idea best promulgated at the local level.

I would point out that there is a difference between scholarship students and voucher students. In the case of St. Alban's, obviously the directors of the school see the need for some sort of diversity. Regarding the statistic that no suburban public schools accepted Cleveland inner-city voucher students: I recall reading that only 6% of all schools in Florida accept voucher students in that state.

Assuming Bush ascends the throne on 1-20, I will be very interested to see what he proposes in the way of education reform. I believe he has mentioned that education reform is No. 1 or No. 2 on his congressional "to do" list.
