Oh, joe, I knew you wouldn't care about the suffering of the women of Afganistan at the hands of the monstrous fundamentalist Taliban! I just posted to you out of a kind of morbid curiosity to see if I was right. There are others here who will care, though. If you think that petitions and letters and public attention to human rights abuses have not done a great deal of good for many poor devils, you are ignorant. BTW: I suspect that if you were hungry, it would make a difference to you for someone to give you a bowl of rice. Giving generously to your local charities and helping those who are suffering elsewhere are not mutually exclusive activities.
