I really doubt E hates Muslims. The Taliban in Afghanistan practices a very different sort of Muslim religion than many Muslims practice in America. I am sure E knows this. I have read horrible things about the Taliban- and if even 1/4 of those things are true, Afghanistan is a very bad place to be born female. Most religions tend to be patriarchal and most societies have tended to be crappy to women, because MEN have run most societies.

Not a Democrat. Not a liberal. Not Christian. Not a Muslim-hater. Not a minority.

But hey, keep trying.

I mention the part about not being a minority because "reverse racism" is a term used commonly to describe racial bias by minorities toward majorities, so your use of it is...unusual. Care to explain?

You won't be able to.

But what does race have to do with the Taliban situation anyway?, she asked hopefully.

About Muslims and Me: I have nothing against Muslims any more than I do against Christians or Jews. It's only the behavior of extremist, zealot, fundamentalist fringe of any religious grouping toward those who don't share their beliefs of which I am, shall we say, disapproving.

My next post will tell you something about the Taliban.

Here are some things you should know about the Taliban and what they are doing to Muslim women (and men and non-Muslims) before you decide to be so approving of them. It is outrageous of you to attribute Taliban attitudes to the great majority of Muslim believers.
~~~~~~~~~
Women have been ordered to stay indoors, only to be allowed out in the
company of a close male relative and wearing the
all-enveloping burqa robe. They are not allowed to work. Most education for women and girls is
discontinued. Women and girls have continued to be barred from
attending schools and universities in Taleban controlled
areas. Men have been ordered to grow beards.
Women are severely punished for clothing violations, for example. They can be rounded up and lashed. A woman Khayr-Khana area of Kabul had the end of her thumb chopped off for wearing nail varnish. The punishment for adultery by a woman is death by stoning.
Women are not allowed to be
visible even within the confines of their homes. In March
1997 the Taleban ordered Kabul residents to screen
windows in their homes at ground and first floor levels to
ensure that women could not be seen from the street: "The face of a woman is a source of
corruption for men who are not related to them."
... the Taliban enforced its laws ... with weekly public executions, floggings, and amputations in Kabul stadium and other cities under its control. Several men accused of sodomy were punished by having walls pushed on
them by a tank. In one case, a man who survived the ordeal after being left under the rubble for
two hours was reportedly allowed to go free.
... the Taliban issued new decrees aimed at non-Muslims that forbade them from
building places of worship but allowed them to worship at existing holy sites, banned non-Muslims
from criticizing Muslims, ordered non-Muslims to identify their houses by placing a yellow cloth
on their rooftops, forbade non-Muslims from living in the same residence as Muslims, and required
that non-Muslim women wear a yellow dress with a special mark so that Muslims could keep their distance.
Average joe, which of these Taliban policies and acts do you consider good Muslim practice?
