i don't believe this slowing is healthy at all. it is way too rapid...just check the explosion in credit spreads, they indicate that default risk has risen substantially. and i do think that the slowdown will intensify in coming months...margins will come under even more pressure, as input costs keep exploding (see NG) while pricing power remains dutifully absent due to industrial overcapacities.
capex will take a huge dive vs. the pace seen in the mid to late '90's. we're witnessing the disintegration of the crack-up boom...
