I am amazed at the effort women, in general, put into their appearance. I wear one pair of black dress shoes to work, they go with all my suits, which are navy blue, black, grey, and camel. Or maybe I am kidding myself, but they go well enough for me. I dye my grey, but wear my hair plain and straight and have it cut in a shoulder length bob. I do wear makeup to work. I have two bottles of foundation, depending on whether I have a tan or not, and I wear one shade of rouge, and one shade of eyeliner (charcoal grey). No nail polish. No eye shadow. No perfume.

I do wear jewelry, a lot of which I made myself and looks a little funky.

And when I am not at work, I wear sweats or jeans, tee shirts, and running shoes or Birkenstocks.

The only time I make any more effort is for a very special occasion. So when I read or hear women talking about their shoes, I am always mystified.

My father's second wife's daughter was a beauty queen type, and always got up an hour early to do her hair and makeup before school started. Not me, rolled out of bed in the last millisecond and wore whatever was clean.
