I believe you may be right. The path of least mental resistance is to hope for Nokia to make a single large acquisition to shore up any perceived weakness in W-CDMA handset manufacturing capability. I am not saying that this will not happen; just that it is the easy way out and life is not always easy. The rumors could just have easily been Motorola, TI or SpinCo as it was Lucent.

It is wishful thinking on the part of Lucent shareholders.
