my two cents on 'When you make a bad bargain, hug it the tighter'....

when you pay dearly for something (a 'bad bargain'), appreciate it all the more (hug tighter).

as opposed to say, getting something for next to nothing (a great bargain), and discarding it as being too easily attained.

i agree, however, that the quote is definitely open to interpretation!

:)

"'When you make a bad bargain, hug it the tighter."

I think this is all about one thing -- integrity

"Honest Abe" supposedly had lots of it. I think the judge was telling you that this is an opportunity for your client to show the world that he's a man of his word, instead of looking for "wiggle room" -- long term, this could be more important than winning in court -- turn the situation into an "real world advertisement" for trustworthiness and write it off as goodwill.

A 140 years later, we get quotes from presidents like..."It depends on what your definition of is, is." Sad.

qh, my take is that when you make a bad bargain, live up to it and be very thankful that you learned a lesson and this won't happen in the future.
