Some observations on the AMD front: o It seems, DDR & Integrated chipsets Osborne effect caught up with AMD causing some of the shortfall in AMD CPU sales this quarter. o DDR 126MByte-1600 prices have fallen to $125 range from $168 range. o Duron 800 CPUs with heat sink & fan are going for $80-$90. I don't see how Celerons & PIIIs can compete with this chip in Q1'01, once cheap Duron mbs pervade the market. Lowest price listed at pricewatch for Celeron 766s is $165!!!o Pricewatch listings show AMD760 based mbs by four vendors. Most of them removed etas. o Look what I stumbled upon while searching for Duron/TB systems on ebay: cgi.ebay.com (Hint: check the motherboard - no listings on the pricewatch though) Link to the mb spec at the manufacturer's site: pcchips.com.tw Link to Sis730s performance review: aceshardware.com SIS730S Single chip Product overview - SIS site By integrating the Ultra-AGPTM technology and advanced 128-bit 2D/3D graphic engine, SiS730S delivers AGP 4X performance and memory bandwidth of up to 1 GB/s. In addition, SiS also supports an extra AGP Slot that supports AGP-4X capability and Fast Write Transactions. Furthermore, SiS730S provides a powerful hardware decoding DVD accelerator to improve the DVD playback performance. In addition to providing the standard interface for CRT monitors, SiS730S also provides the Digital Flat Panel Port (DFP) for a standard interface between a personal computer and a digital flat panel monitor. To extend functionality and flexibility, SiS also provides the " Video Bridge" (SiS301) to support the NTSC/PAL Video Output, Digital LCD Monitor and Secondary CRT Monitor, which reduces the external Panel Link transmitter and TV-Out encoder for cost effected solution. SiS730S adopts Share System Memory Architecture which can flexibly utilize the frame buffer size up to 64MB sis.com.tw o 12-11-00 - SiS Announces Its First DDR DRAM-Supporting Single Chip SiS635 for Intel-Based Processors and SiS735 for AMD-Based Processors sis.com.tw [...]Production Schedule The SiS635 will be sampled in December and mass production in February 2001. The SiS735 will be sampled in January and mass production in March 2001. Both are priced at US$ 27 for a 10K order and will be rolled out from its own fab.
