<<...Gore wants to see what the votes say..>>

Not entirely accurate. When he discovered what the votes were "saying" in the partial recounts, he went searching for a more favorable interpreter.

when did Pres. Bush say that?
i thought he was being very careful to say nothing inflamatory.

(And Bush is actually 'saying' if he gets the Presidency via the Florida legislature, the h**l with the votes.)

Yes, Ellen, you have a habit of placing yourself in the line of fire.

George W. has nothing to do with the actions by the Florida State Legislature. The Legislature is concerned that if the Gore campaign contest proceedings continue, placing the electors appointed based upon certified election results in doubt that its very possible that no Florida electors will vote for president. The Legislature views as its duty, though this is presently being debated on the floor, to protect Florida's electoral votes.

Now given the political makeup of the Florida Legislature, I cannot say that if the shoe were on the other foot, that if Gore were the certified winner, and Bush was launching the contest proceedings, that the Legislature would be acting in the same fashion, but you could be sure that the Democratic State legislators would be pushing for the same appointment of electors.

Nevertheless, to assert that Bush is saying "the heck with the votes" is disingenuous and misses the point that this is an independent state body conducting a proceeding that is authorized by the US Constitution and Federal law.
