The only way that Congress won't have to decide the Presidency is if Gore concedes. Otherwise, it's as certain as sunrise in the morning.

"14:48 Sen. Lott: Hopes Congress won't have to decide presidency"

That would actually be the best possible scenario for the democratic party, as it would virtually assure winning back the house and senate in the mid-term elections (I'd rather control the congress than the white house anyday).

The bell has tolled on democracy in Florida. GOP legislators have proven that there is no length to which they won't go (including thumbing their nose at the voters) to achieve the partisan result they favor. The irony is that under the Federal safe harbor law they claim to be concerned about, they may actually have harmed Bush (and Florida) more than they have helped Bush (and Florida) because of this action.

Payback is hell - I would expect the new democratic plurality in Florida to return this favor to the legislature (and Jebbie) the very next time they get the chance. Should be interesting to watch when it happens.
