Cisco had acquired a 10% interest in the optical components
business of Pirelli during the Pirelli acquisition. Ciscos cost was 100M$ for that particular piece of Pirelli. That
components business was acquired by Corning (GLW)and today, that deal closed. Corning gave Cisco 5.4 Mshares of common GLW. At todays GLW closing price of about 75$, that is worth 410M$. Not a bad investment.

Zactly! That's the trouble with less informed folks attempting to understand and play the sector. They hear commentary from analysts and can't discern what it actually means to the companies in the sector. Unfortunately it's the same lack of knowledge that causes some to make unwise buy and sell decisions which in turn do effect the stock price. The moral to the story...you have to understand what the unwise investors are doing to understand the how a stock will move in the short term.... Long term it doesn't really matter.
