Sojourner, what we are witnessing is the beginning of The Ugly American President in Phase Two of the Information Age. The U.S. Court has effectively snuffed any chance Gore has to get a recount conducted by the 18th, and even goes so far as to say the operative date is the 12th. The ruling effectively kills any chance Gore has to win from the recount he long sought.

Only partisans will agree with the U.S. court's ruling. Legal scholars will forever debate this, ultimately concluding that Gore, to be blunt, got screwed!

But it still ain't over, folks!

Now we enter the conscience phase of things. This is where the electors themselves will now have to carefully weigh public opinion, the consequences as to who won the national popular vote, the fairness of the Florida system and the political breakdown of the courts.

A two or three vote shift among electoral college members could deprive Bush of the presidency.

Let's see what comes out in the media between now and then. Anyone who thinks this is over could be fooling themselves. That what's happened already is strange. That something like this could happen also? Well, that'd be strange too. But we're getting used to, are we not--lol?
