Yes, it's all over but the waiting, and the smarmy concession speech.

My favorite spinner was Julian Epstein on Fox--he actually tried to spin it as a Gore victory. Rita Cosby did the same thing but I think hers was simple negligence, she was just not bright enough to have buttoned up that pig ugly red coat of hers and pretend to read a Supreme Court opinion outdoors all on the same evening.

Julian Epstein was the worst, though, as he said with a straight face that, well, it was a matter of law now that Florida might take until December 28, or even January 2 to choose their electors according to the decision (which he hadn't read). He actually dissed (imo) the "reporters" who at least were holding up these little pamphlets (they looked like Christmas Eve Service bulletins, about 12 pages, just enough room for all our favorite Christmas/Kwanzaa carols) and trying to parse them. Julian sat there with his moussed and au courant spiked hair, tenting and retenting his fingers, giving Paula Zahn a disquisition on the law, which he got all wrong. What the hey, he's only a TV lawyer, it seems.

Actually it was funny to surf and watch Rather, Brokaw and Jennings trying desperately to get someone to read the damn thing and tell these "news readers" what to intone in those oh so familiar voices. Nobody had a clue.

Since the previous orders have been vacated, I suppose it is now time for the Florida legislature to certify the 25 electors. Open the champagne, and extend a warm hand to Al Gore as we show him to the door. Hokay, a pointed boot will work, also.

I wonder how many times Albert is going to play touch football (that faux Kennedy touch) in the front yard with his kids, or bust a gut climbing a mountain (Rainier, just a painful slog, but how Kennedyesque!), or go to church, or "pray" with Joe Lieberman, yada yada yada. The photo ops are history, and now where will Al find Al? I do believe there is no "there" there.

Big League Question for us all: Has the rule of law triumphed over the guerrilla warfare in support of the Big Lie? Only time will tell.
