Heard on CNN that only 3 justices signed the majority opinion: namely, Rehnquist, Scalia and Thomas. The signatures of justices O'Connor and Kennedy (who voted along with the majority) are conspicuously absent.

I suspect that, at least in these two cases, the need for finality probably outweighed some statutory considerations.

OFF TOPIC

Hope that Bush realizes that the country doesn't
want the agenda that he advanced during the election
and we sure don't want the kind of government that Texas has.

jeff,

re:"Hope that Bush realizes that the country doesn't want the agenda that he advanced during the election and we sure don't want the kind of government that Texas has"

Texas is a great place to live.

I hope Bush realizes that some areas of the country are not beyond hope and would eagerly welcome the kind of government Texas has.

Jeff, re:...we sure don't want the kind of government that Texas has...

Presumably, you feel like you're speaking for the country as a whole given that Bush only received 49% of the vote.

Hmmm, but I suppose "we" wanted the kind of government that Arkansas had? Oops, what percentage of the vote did Clinton have in '96?
