"The others, they just take who gives them the biggest account minimum....

My biggest account minimum is the one who is also letting my balance accrue at 0% until next summer. They think I might let that debt run at their regular rate of 10.99% after the teaser deal expires. I guess a lot of folks get trapped though. Buy the big screen teevee and the 17 flat panel for the computer and plan on saving the money before the teaser period ends, and somehow it never quite happens.

Also, I checked and the highest nominal rate on any of my accounts is 19.99%, but that card gives a huge rebate on purchases. Like you said, if you never carry a balance, it really doesn't matter. Still, most are 10 or 11%. Of course don't send your payment late, or they make Shylock your customer service rep.

"I'm not the only one running a CC carry trade"

Chic, I swear I thought you got the idea from me. -g- I've been doing this for a couple of years now, although the competition among cc issuers seems to have really amplified in the last year or so. I recall that I used to think it remarkable when I'd get an offer at 3.9% or 4.9%. Now it's ho hum when I see 0% for 9 months, and 'who do they think they're kidding' when they try to call 9.99% a teaser rate.

There is a thread devoted to the cc carry trade, although not very active:

Chic - looks like the Bush relief rally may have played out last night in the futures markets. Clowns may be sad today.
