To a conservative like you it appears the liberals manipulated.

To a liberal it appears the conservatives manipulated.

You maybe right. I really feel you are right about your feelings and I feel the same way, only we are on different sides. Abstract! I am glad you wanted to keep this on the board. We never knew that it was going to be big time history when you wanted to do that. Thanks! We all learned a lot.

Back to our mutual feelings.......I think that the best thing that will come out of this will be hopefully we can have an election in 4 years that is as close to honest and correct as machine/humanly possible, that is until someone hacks it.

I hope they will spend 4 years if necessary to check out if those registered are dead or alive, come up with a national standard for manual counting, remove felons from the rolls (if they are not permitted to vote). Hopefully they will contract MSFT or someone of that stature to work on and come up with a electronic system of voting that, if possible, would be fool proof. Plus many other improvements that need to be made to correct this situation.

If they can put a man on the moon, the above can be done.

"If you can concieve it you can achieve it."

with luv,
dealie

abstract...."there is no joy in mudville...."

reality check....

have faith in the average american, which is what most of the populace is.....

after casey struck out, mudville was disheartened....... but the temporarily distraught mudville fans had the common sense, based in reality, to realize, that although this game or season was over, another game would begin, a new season will unfold, and always the opportunity to hear the cry of "play ball".....

you forget there was a sequel to "casey at bat"....

the conclusion is not as earth shaking as many want you to believe...politics by its very nature is partisan, and until it becomes a monolith one will always hear cries from the other side of the aisle....

it's over, and as the beatles sang "life goes on"....

more important things to worry about...like a-rod getting a quarter bil from the rangers...will he perform?

american attention span is very limited.....unless they are directly affected

I only appear conservative. I am actually very liberal -- as in, allowing people to lead their own lives as free from government interference as possible. Like the founding fathers did. I don't go as far as freeus, but I lean in her direction.

I'm plowing through the opinion. It pretty much embodies what this nation is, or was at one time, all about. The majority opinion is well-founded and based upon Constitutional principles that they held long before this issue arose. It's interesting that you believe that as a conservative, my opinion is predictable. To the contrary, I find liberals to be utterly predictable. It's just a matter of knowing what makes them tick.

We can semi-agree on one thing. You say that appearances are more important than reality. I believe that perception is reality. But perceptions can change.

Any views on NTAP vs. JDSU/SDLI?

Hi abstract,

I'm sure you will have a different perception than mine. However, I think this is how many will see things as time passes & folks look back on what actually transpired sans partisan spin. Perhaps not......

Perhaps history will determine Gore ultimately failed to ask for a statewide recount as well as uniform statewide standards the day after the election. Trying to win a national election by cherry picking Democratic strongholds for additional votes freed Pandora & allowed the chaos machine to run amuck.

Gore choose the wrong path from the get go & made wrong turns at every juncture, IMVHO. His passionate desire to win clouded his perception of reality of what constituted a full, fair & accurate recount.

The FLSC chose to be activist rather than pragmatic, thus failing to create any potential legitimate solutions. This was due to allowing partisan bias to cloud pragmatic objectivity & replace it with faulty perceptions of reality to guide their rulings.

The USSC could not cross the legal hurdles placed in front of them by Team Gore & the FLSC, preventing them from finding a legitimate & timely solution to count ALL LEGAL VOTES. They may have voted along partisan lines, but the majority of the USSC had the Rule of Law as the basis for their ruling.

Bush won the original count & state required recount. He had absolutely no reason to protest/contest anything. All he needed to do was to work to see that the Rule of Law was followed. IMVHO, Bush did exactly that.

People across this land will continue to live with their personal bias. Their perceptions of this event will be their reality...... regardless of the facts.

That's my story & I'm sticking to it. What's yours?
