The fatal error

Came when Gore's lawyers, trying to be sneaky like lawyers are, asked for a recount of only favorable counties.

Think about it, a "normal" person, i.e. not a lawyer, might have said, "OK, it's really close, lets do a handcount of the entire state." They might have won that one, but no they had to show us all how smart they were and cherrypick the best places to mine Gore votes. Unfortunately for them, seven Justices on the U.S. Supreme court found Constitutional issues with this.

I am savoring the delicious irony of this blunder with my breakfast this morning. Anyone like to join me?

I agree with your points about leadership. The presidency is essentially a "figure head" position and we need someone there who can gather a group of qualified people around him and then get out of the way and let them do their job. Then he can provide guidance when necessary. IMO - Al Gore is not that person. While I don't think Bush is the smartest man in the world, he inspires me and that's what a president should do.

I guess I disagree with both you and the Dave guy who answered your post. I don't find the last 5 weeks inspiring at all. I hope Bush starts acting like he's going to be President and doesn't continue to sit back and be an uninvolved figurehead who is occassionally called forward to read a speech to the nation.

Now that Bush has the office, I say let him be President. Let him run the show. Bush is going to be sworn in as President, not Cheney.
