td,

You are correct sir, SIAL's just auctioning their own stuff. So yes, I'd think they get the proceeds. It will be interesting to see how that goes, and to see if the expand the concept. I agree most scientists like new stuff, but a company can't just toss a spectrometer cuz the hot new hire doesn't like the old one. I'd think they'd give the lad or lass more vacation time instead.

Gotta start hunting in associations. Sometimes the industry associations have some market data that's tough for us individuals to develop. Hence my foray to the ASMS site (though I wasn't looking for market data on that visit). Any help appreciated.

Cheers, Tuck

PCOP, whose libraries were dissed by one of our resident chemists, has other things going for it:

biz.yahoo.com

The MSI software division is apparently a jewel. A couple of these same chemists seemed to imply they'd resort to underhanded methods to gain access to it. In any case, Trickle is holding on to its PCOP.

Hey, chemists, y'all mentioned another software outfit called MDL. Think it was you, td. Want to tell me what it does and who owns it?

Cheers, Tuck

td,

Need a spectrometer cheap? Try your luck at the site below.

>>My read was the SIAL site is for surplus inventory of new stuff they (SIAL) want to get rid of, not used equipment from other companies.<<

Well, FSH has such a site. Sort of. I doubt the used stuff is from competitors. But it earns the Trickle Word Play of the Month Award (Corporate Division):

"einsteinsgarage.com
The theory of relatively new stuff

For great deals on gently used and overstocked products."

And now, a spontaneous entry in the Personal division of the Word Play Contest from yours truly:

I hear FSH stocks dark matter, but can't find it in the warehouse.

You folks may now vote on the overall winner, or make contributions of your own.

Cheers, Tuck

Looks like the Ebay model really is coming to lab equipment:
