It is not important. You lend credibility to a ridiculous argument by pretending that it is of some importance. The fact remains, of the votes counted, Al Gore got more votes than George Bush. Neither received a majority of votes counted.

The only number that matters, under the Constitution, is the total number of electoral votes. George Bush has 271. George Bush wins. End of story. The rest is background noise and you are feeding it.
