mact - I own both Ciena and AVNX. I'm not in any rush to sell Ciena based on the emergence of Avanex (yet). The CoreDirector penetration is accelerating and should do wonderful through next year. However, if AVNX begins to make inroads (starting in the metro) late next year and 2002 - it may be time to reassess Ciena's focus on intelligent networking - this misnomer will become more apparent as the sheer magnitude of bandwidth becomes too much to 'manage'. What makes AVNX attractive now is the fact that many of their products address the bitrate bonanza being promoted now (PowerShaper will be essential for 40G and 80G). So they will be able to ride both trends - if the PowerMux really does start to disrupt the metro . . . Ciena is the place to be for now though. No questions there. FWIW jeremic
