Snowshoe, below is an answer to both you and Steve on the Sandisk thread regarding SST's current out of favor status and the possible reason for the downgrade.

Steve, I don't believe SSTI should be priced as commodity memory maker. SST's Superflash technology is a interesting patented open proprietary technology with some inherent advantages in cost, reliablity and size.

SSTI used to be primarily a PC BIOS company, but last quarter PC BIOS only accounted for 15% of their revenues. But when PC sales slow down, SST still gets downgraded. About one month ago the company said due to slowing PC sales and lack of wafer availability, the company expected the revenue growth rate to slow from an unbelievable 54% sequential quarterly growth rate to a more modest 24% sequential growth rate this quarter before increasing again next year. Meanwhile margins are expected to improve this quarter as royalty payments begin to ramp up. In the last couple of weeks, it seems like every PC related company has warned. SST is guilty by association and has been thrown out with the semis. I haven't seen a single downgrade that has been company specific.

I don't expect an earnings miss, but I could well be missing something. We will see. There is still time for a warning.

Found this on the Sutro downgrade:
