LOL, except I'm not Laughing. I am heartsick. I have told you how much I hate to fight. I am far too naturally inclined to it. I try to suppress that urge because I have fought too much. But the rage at what has happened is surging up in me.

It's not just about abortion, that is a symptom. It is about tyranny. It is about a group of people who feel entitled, and justified, to impose their will and morality on another that she should carry that child against her will. That entire mentality is warped.

My body. My decision. If it is not obvious that what is taking place inside my body is my business, how can any other person who would seek to control that be trusted with any other decision about anyone else's well being?

b-i-a:

I still don't understand why the anti-abortion plank in the Republican platform exists.

The reason I don't understand is that I can't figure out how outlawing abortion puts money into Republicans' pockets.

There is a straightforward explanation for this. It goes back to Nixon's "southern strategy", at least, probably a lot older than that in other forms. The Republicans are the party of the wealthy, but there aren't enough rich people around to elect anybody, so they got to pick up votes somewhere. People at a certain level of affluence aren't going to be bothered by an abortion ban, there's always a clean way out if you have enough money. Sucking up to the religious right is how Republicans get elected.

I think most of the well off would be perfectly happy to vote Libertarian, if the Libertarians had any political viability. Given the limitations of the 2 party system, they're mostly going to vote their pocketbooks over social issues. Economically, it's rational enough.

Cheers, Dan.
