True. But voters often are smarter than many believe in situations like this. Big Business and the Ohio GOP spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to try to defeat an Ohio Supreme Court justice (Democrat, female) who in the past has sided with the little guy as opposed to Big Business and rich suburban school districts. She won re-election rather handily on Nov. 7. Tens of thousands of Buckeye voters voted for Bush but not for her hand-picked opponent.

By the way, one of the mistakes the Dems made was not spending more campaign time and money in Ohio. Several analysts said after the election that Ohio was indeed winnable for Gore had he put a little more money and time into the state.
