has the advantages of ease of implementation and counting efficiency

Indeed it does... but again, reasonable analysis must be applied. I read somewhere that people using optical scanners inked out their "dot" with everything but a #2 pencil in some elections and those ballots, upon recount were counted. I don't personally have a problem with that. But if a stink arose, then I would regress back to the harsher standard.. Being a Republican, after all, most of us KNOW HOW TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS.. :0)

you guys have to promise not to whine when some absentee military ballots get kicked out

I don't have a problem with that, SO LONG AS those military absentee ballots aren't thrown out solely because a postmark error not of their own fault. The DOD will have to REALLY step up their supervision and compliance with regard to getting ballots to servicemembers and back to the state of residence in a timely manner.

Overall, the best thing to come out of this election is the fact that none of us will ever have an excuse for not paying attention to a national election ever again (until we're all senile anyway.. ;)

The election of 2004 should prove VERY interesting.
