I don't know, but it's 25 cents from me having to send twister a case of bud.

briank:

I've been hurt bad by margin also. But it has given me a new perspective on the use of leverage. The good thing about margin calls were that they forced me to sell stocks before I was completely wiped out. In fact, SUNW is one stock that I dearly wanted to keep but decided to sell to help meet a call. Since that time the market has taken the stock lower. So margin calls can help as a trigger to sell out on the way down.

Eight days ago I was down 90% off my initial cash investment in August. By the end of last week I was only off 50% because as the market went back up I bought back in on margin. I was able to preserve the date of some of my investments by re-entering them within the 30 day wash rule period. Today's action has me back to off 80% and facing new margin calls. I will sell again if I have to and re-enter later as my equity rises.

Margin is like steroid use. If you are not among the fortunate endowed with a trust fund then margin is the only way I know to get bigger faster within my lifetime. I will continue to take positions on margin because the long term trend of the market is up. My trading portfolio is 100% risk capital; I am not gambling with my retirement or the children's college fund. And I do not want to miss the market when it comes back.
