It’s over — or is it?

I’m not alone in seeing four years of bitter political warfare, especially by the Democrats’ media brown shirts, as my editor rightly calls them. The thuggish Jesse Jackson is already laying down part of the groundwork for what he hopes will be a successful war of delegitimization against a Bush presidency.

The problem for Democrats will be the uncomfortable fact that the US Supreme Court found by a majority of seven. Notwithstanding the hypocrisy of our leftwing (or perhaps I should say Orwellian) media, this is an overwhelming judicial vote. That Democrats like Senator Tom Harkin can profess genuine outrage at a decision that retained the integrity of the Constitution again alerts us to the moral bankruptcy of the Democratic Party (Incidentally, it was Gerry Jackson who informed me of Harkin’s links to the Marxist Institute for Policy Studies which is also a strong supporter of the Castro aregime. This helps explain Harkin’s contempt for the court’s decision).

As the American public still has enormous respect for the Supreme Court attempts to demonize it could seriously misfire. A fact that more sober minded Democrats will be aware of, just as they are aware that if they did succeed in destroying the court’s legitimacy it would ironically destroy their own attempts to pervert the law to impose their own political order on the America people. For if the United States Supreme Court has no moral authority and political standing what court in the land does? None is the answer. I therefore predict that attacks on the court will subside as the consequences of such attacks begin to be fully comprehended by the Democrats more cunning operatives.

This leaves the media and the unions. I leave out the black community because I doubt if the Republicans are prepared to make the necessary investment in trying to demonstrate to blacks the extent to which they have been betrayed and cynically, even cruelly, exploited by their so-called political leaders, including many who call themselves men of God.

Of the unions and the media, I consider the latter to be the most dangerous. It’s the vicious Dan Rathers, Geraldo Riveras and Cokie Roberts and their editors that have to be dealt with. Still, one wonders what the problem is. These are not even intelligent people and yet Republicans allow them to get away with murder. Gerry Jackson’s(editor of the New Australian) savage attacks on Maureen Dowd demonstrated not only these people’s lack of substance but their cowardice.

Time and time again, Gerry has shown the vast majority of leftwing journalists are intellectual and moral cowards. They can dish it out but they cannot take it — and that includes the editors and senior executives. Someone once asked Gerry what his main ambition in life was, he happily replied: “To turn media commentary into a blood sport”. Well, he has and the proof of his success is that Maureen Dowd is still bleeding profusely.

He knows, as does any informed observer of the media scene, that these attacks will never change the bigoted attitude of the likes of Dowd. But then they are not meant to. They are designed to expose these journalists’ hypocrisy, dishonesty and political bigotry. In other words, to destroy their credibility, just as they are trying to destroy the Republicans’ credibility.

The mainstream media’s political power, despite Americans growing disillusionment with their activities, is still enormous. If the Republicans successfully broke the left’s media influence by forcing them to report honestly the only way Democrats could hope to defeat Republicans would be by out ‘Republicaning’ them. It’s a delicious thought.
