Which proves that the market is extrememly fragile, and will continue to be. With warnings coming fast and furious now, any negative data (true or not....) is being amplified tremendously, especially on already down days.

I don't know what the new paradigm is going to be to refute this kind stuff, or even if it warrants a reply each time. I think not.

However, pro-active IR depts across the country are starting to eye their stock prices as almost as important an asset as their intellectual data, or other corporate properties.

In fact, since there is so much employee stock ownership, employees start to get concerned about their compensation when stocks tank.

Just think of the employee morale at LU if you need proof. I hear that many engineers and other employees are despondent and concerned about their LU asset evaporation.

I am encouraged by companies like EMC who vigilently guard their vision of growth and squash rumor with a combination of good analyst relations and good IR relations.

I think that's going to be the model more companies will work to adopt as Reg FD slowly becomes mainstream and companies finally realize how important the rewards of a consistent and reliable stock price really are.

Steve

Hedge funds were shorting the heck out of PMCS the day of Niles' poorly timed downgrade. I saw heavy shorting all the way down to 90. Interestingly, Lehman was buying for their clients into the downgrade. But the funds who followed the 'public' Lehman call? Terrible trades that need to be salvaged so the funds can continue to show their stellar performance. imo

>all i can say is i WISH my companies could report their results BEFORE year end, it'd be nice to have the sigh of relief before January.<

i've been mulling over the possibility of positive pre-announcements myself. as i recall from early this year, (upon returning from overseas and slogging through a backlog of press releases), AMCC did pre-release 3Q results on jan 3 (first day of trading in '00). not soon enough for you, eh?

during my time as a shareholder, i don't recall PMC "officially" releasing preliminary numbers, although i certainly wouldn't object in this market clime.

fwiw, i attended the ALTS conference in hilton head last week. confirmed that AMCC has DWs in Astral Point's metro gear. AP's revenue stream likely has too may CLECs for my taste, but i most certainly got a warm & fuzzy for a robust optical MAN/edge market (cf. Geyser and Riverstone Networks).
