MORGAN CITY, La.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 13, 2000--J. Ray McDermott, a subsidiary of McDermott International, Inc. (NYSE:MDR - news), recently completed the installation of oil and natural gas pipelines for the Brutus project in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico.

Owned by Shell Exploration & Production Company, Brutus is located in approximately 3,000 feet of water, 165 miles southwest of New Orleans.

Pipeline installation was accomplished utilizing J. Ray McDermott's Derrick Barge 16, a dynamically positioned vessel that is equipped with a new modular S-Lay system.

Work crews installed a 20-inch oil pipeline approximately 24 miles in length from South Timbalier 301 to Green Canyon 158. Additionally, a 20-inch natural gas pipeline approximately 23 miles in length was extended from Ship Shoal 332 to Green Canyon 158. Water depths of the pipelines range from 333 feet to 3,010 feet.

At the end of each pipeline, steel catenary risers (SCR) were installed using the S-Lay system and laid on the seafloor. These SCRs will be raised and suspended from the Brutus tension leg platform in Spring of 2001. Construction of the topsides for Brutus is nearing completion at J. Ray McDermott's fabrication facilities near Morgan City. Delivery of the topsides is scheduled early next year.

J. Ray McDermott has previously completed work on four other Shell tension leg platform (TLP) projects. Brutus marks the fifth TLP deck that J. Ray McDermott has fabricated for Shell.
