hi i2 "Is Windows Me as prone to crashes as 95???" i have w95 on one pc, but hardly ever use it. without heavy use, it strikes me as stable enough. i have no experience with winme. my general impression is that windows gets better with each subsequent release. but someone who uses winme will have to give you their opinion. keep in mind, there are many, many variables to factor into whatever response you get! <g> "Does Win 2000 support peripherals as well as 98 or Me???" right away there's a tendency to say 'no' to this question. however, one must not be hasty with this subject. reason being, if a trade off exists, (say, stability for compatibility), one must then decide where one's priorities fall. i have a multi-function peripheral (printer, scanner, copier, fax), an external iomega jaz drive, a cable modem, an external analog modem, an internal analog modem, a scsi card, a network interface card, an ata-66 controller card, two hard drives and a lot of software. all i had to do was iron out some details with a graphics card and contact the printer manufacturer for help with a setting that would not stay put. but i also spent an enormous amount of time preparing for the move to win2000pro! i talked about it here on this thread probably for months beforehand! <g3> probably the newer the peripheral, the more compatible the os. the good thing is, there's seems to me to be very little chance of being taken by surprise by any issues with win2000, because so much attention is being focused on that subject. take for example the downloadable Windows 2000 Readiness Analyzer tool.... microsoft.com .... or the hundreds of online win2k install articles and tutorials at one's virtual fingertips. seems to me that to a large degree, the element of risk is being taken out of this os. Is Windows Me as prone to crashes as 95??? I2 No it is not.WME is good but it would not be where I want to end with an operating system.Next I will be in W2000 and then Whistler when it comes out next year about this time. I have found Win Me more stable than 95,98,and 98SE. Ed

Investor2 I have been using a Winme machine for a couple of weeks now and other than some initial shutdown problems it hasn't crashed yet. It doesn't "feel" as fast or responsive as 98se and the help files (now html) are extremely slow. Many people do not like the new restore function and it will not let you tweak as many system files as previous versions. General opinion is that it is more stable than previous versions but not as stable as 2000. tc
