The World Health Organization even encourages smokers to use nicotine gum and patches for cessation. The tar in tobacco and smoke of cigarettes cause cancer, emphysema, and other smoking related diseases. Nicotine is not the cause of these diseases. Second hand smoke has been found to be a health risk to non-smokers, and this is why smoking has been banned in many public places. Nicotine gum also solves this problem, and this is one reason that I think nicotine gum will sell well as a substitute for smoking.
