SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- Another
day, another warning ... surprise, surprise!

At this point, Compaq shareholders have
become quite adept at the grin-and-bear-it
strategy. And yes, they were forced to put this
approach to work once again on Wednesday
when the box-making giant warned of lower
fourth-quarter sales and profits. See full story.

With the Nasdaq continuing its wretched
slide, shares of Compaq (CPQ: news, msgs)
dipped 10 percent and sent thick-skinned
shareholders to the message boards in droves.

On Silicon
Investor,
ElwoodDowd
typified the
frustration
rampant in
cyberspace:
"This stock is dead money. I'd rather shovel
snow than watch this pig agonize. I can't
imagine what would/could be a catalyst, other
than a nice earnings report, to move this stock
up anytime soon. Means to me that we are
stuck in this range for at least 3 months. I
doubt that Q1 will be anything to write home
about. I've found that that one can be more
accurate in thinking the worst with this
company than thinking the best."
